Additional $600 unemployment benefit payments start rolling out tonight

The payments are part of federal legislation passed in March.

Gov. Beshear announced during his briefing tonight new details about the additional $600 payment those on unemployment will receive. Those details include:

  1. This is an automatic payment to anyone receiving benefits. You do not need to do anything to receive this additional benefit.
  2. Payments will begin tonight.
  3. This is a separate payment from other unemployment payments.
  4. Retroactive to March 29, 2020.

Earlier this week, the Governor announced that Kentucky had received federal funding to begin making the additional $600 payments. The payments are separate from other unemployment benefits and are part of the CARES Act passed in late March.
